GONZALES LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

 Lions Club International is the world’s largest service club organization with more than 1.3 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas worldwide. Since 1917, Lions Clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired and made a strong commitment to community service and serving youth worldwide. Due to this commitment, the Gonzales Lions Club has created a scholarship for the students of Ascension Parish.

SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW

 The Gonzales Lions Club Scholarship was established in 2015. It targets graduating seniors who show potential for success in furthering their education and who exhibit a commitment to serving others. One graduating senior from each public high school in Ascension Parish will receive a $500 scholarship to help defray the cost of their higher education expenses.

REQUIREMENTS

A Selection and Review Committee will use the following criteria to make their selections:

  • Student must be a graduating senior from an Ascension Parish School.
  • Student must attend a Louisiana public or private college, university, or technical college.
  • Student must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative grade point average.
  • Student must ATTACH high school transcript.
  • Student must ATTACH at least two (2) reference letters.
  • Applicant must show evidence of active participation in school and community activities/service volunteering.
  • Student must submit an essay describing what his/her plans are after graduation from college, trade or technical school.

HOW TO APPLY

The application must be filled out completely, providing the requested information. (Please make sure adequate postage is provided.)  Scholarship recipients will be notified by the Gonzales Lions Club through email and your school counselor, before graduation.  The Lions Club Scholarship recipients will be recognized at a special dinner at a local restaurant.  Your attendance is required.

SCORING RUBRIC

The rubric is based upon the following criteria with a maximum of 100 points:

  • Community Volunteer Hours = 50 points
  • GPA = 25 points
  • School Extra-curricular activities = 25 points
